Commodity Forwarders operates our own facilities at fourteen locations throughout the United States including Alaska and Hawaii. In each of these locations we operate and manage our own refrigeration, with temperatures set according to the product and its needs. In each of our major gateway operations we operate multiple units dedicated to the storage of seafood, produce and flowers. Several of our facilities also operate refrigerated docks, allowing cargo to be kept chilled during the buildup or breakdown process and during the transfer from our cooler and trucks to our customers.
In addition to operating chill and frozen refrigeration, CFI has also invested in the necessary equipment to repackage and chill down cargo in our possession before it is exported or continues in transit. At select locations we offer forced air chilling, re-icing with dry or wet ice and gel packs. In Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, Miami, Boston and New York we have flake ice machines designed solely to produce ice for wet-icing seafood.
CFI understands that warehousing items for human consumption means being aware of sanitation, temperature excursion, the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), HAACP, and good handling practices. We constantly monitor our facilities and train our staff in proper handling and food safety. Our Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, New York and Honolulu facilities are also PRIMUS certified, giving produce shippers extra comfort to know that we have been trained in how to properly handle their cargo.
